Assessment of Fruit and Vegetable Residues Suitable for Renewable Energy Production: GIS-Based Model for Developing New Frontiers within the Context of Circular Economy

چکیده

Due to the necessity of developing renewable energy sources, anaerobic digestion for producing biomethane has developed significantly in last years, since it allows both reduce disposal treatment and produce green energy. In this field, fruit vegetable wastes have been recently put forward, they could represent a suitable resource as new frontier within context circular economy. This study aims at filling gap knowledge production, quantities biogas potential production these residues. On basis, GIS-based model was applied Sicily region by investigating specific regulatory framework well analysing descriptive statistics. The results GIS analyses enabled localisation highest productive territorial areas highlighted where are abundantly located. regard, about 7 million Nm3 be produced reusing only residues coming from three most representative Sicilian wholesale markets among those considered.
